Advice to Aspiring Illustrators

“Become a children’s librarian.”

That’s what illustrator Anne Lee recommends to children who want to be illustrators.  At the Meet Your Neighbor program yesterday, Anne explained that becoming a children’s librarian is a great way to learn about books, illustration, storytimes, and how children look at pictures. It is terrific preparation for becoming an illustrator.

Anne, who is also a librarian,  presented her new book, Old Abe, Eagle Hero: The Civil War’s Most Famous Mascot to a packed house. She showed us how she worked, where she got her ideas, and what it is like to work on a tight deadline.
