Young Reader, Advanced Reading

Here in the Children’s Department, we sometimes see third, fourth, fifth, sixth graders who are reading at the high school level, or even higher. 

What can they read?   What is interesting to kids, challenging enough to keep them engaged, and appropriate for their age level?

The most important thing is to follow the child’s interest.

Fantasy is often a good fit, and nonfiction should not be overlooked.

Here are some picks that have worked for our young, advanced readers.
