A Sea of Stories

This summer our preschoolers have been listening to a Sea of Stories in the Children’s Department.

First, we visited Hawai’i to learn about whales, shells, and Pig Boy.  The kids did an authentic seated hula (“Ke Ao Nani”), written for children by Mary Kawena Pukui.

The following week, we learned not to dump it in the ocean, a storytime devoted to recycling, reusing and recreating with trash.

Next, humane educator, Marsha Robbins, brought her wonderful trained therapy dogs, Sizzle and Ming, to teach us about dog safety.  dog-safety-storytime-with-marsha-robbins-6-7910

Our intern, Letty, read us sea monster stories and helped us make sea monster masks.

Still to come….  Superheroes! on July 23, and….

Pirates and Treasure on July 30!
