Hermione and Hedwig
Last Saturday, the Children’s Department was transformed into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. A score or more of young witches and wizards were here, engaging in a variety of magical activities.
Professor Sprout offered a course in herbology, where students learned to identify lavender, tansy, yarrow, and other magical plants.
Professor McGonagall performed a paper transformation charm, demonstrating how to turn paper into a golden snitch.
Mrs. Weasley served delicious rock cakes and pumpkin juice.
Prefects from Ravenclaw and Slytherin led a boisterous game of “Pass Dobby’s Sock.”
Professor Snape taught students how to summon a patronus. We saw silvery otters, terriers, and even a phoenix or two.
Dementors protected the castle
The afternoon concluded with a scavenger hunt of magical objects, and a read-aloud from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
